TENCEL® LYOCELL FIBRILLATED / MICROFIBRILLATED FIBERS

Tencel lyocell is a 100% alpha-cellulose fiber. The long chain molecules within the fiber are arranged in a highly oriented crystalline structure, resulting in high strength, absorbency and excellent retention of mechanical properties in the wet state.

 One of the unique features of certain grades of short-cut Tencel lyocell is the ability to be fibrillated, or split into micro-fibers during wet processing. The long fibril length and the round micron and sub-micron fibrils can improve paper properties such as filtration efficiency, air permeability, tear strength and opacity. These properties can be tailored by controlling the amount of fibrillation generated on the fiber

 Also, this fibrillated structure can be used to bind and retain other components such as activated carbons and other absorbents without the use of resin or other binders that could blind the active components.

EFT Fibrillated Lyocell Fibers for Pulps for Specialty

Papers, Filtration Media and Nonwovens Engineered Fibers Technology can provide fibrillated lyocell fiber over a wide range of fibril lengths and fibrillation levels in a form suitable for use in wet-laid papermaking processes.

 We have also developed unique processing technology to now be able to provide microfibrillaed lyocell fibers, which have a very high number average of 0.1 to 0.25 micron diameter fibrils, which are in the same range as produced in the electrospinning and meltspinning of nanofibers. These new fibers have a wide range of potential applications for the economic production of high efficiency filtration media and other engineered materials. Our manufacturing process results in reproducible control of the fiber length, diameter and morphology, and our process can provide commercial quantities of both fibrillated and microfibrillated fibers.
