EFT has the capability to analyze the physical properties of cellulosic and synthetic fiber based paper products. We provide the services to conduct refining studies, construct variable basis weight, variable density handsheets, and analyze the handsheets for mechanical properties. Our 12" x 12" handsheets are heavier than TAPPI Standard Handsheets (60 g/m2). Strength rankings of pulp/paper made at 60 g/m2 may differ when basis weights are higher. Higher basis weight testing may correlate more closely with the final end use requirements of the product. Pulp Testing □ Canadian Standard Freeness □ Williams Freeness (differentiation of fast draining pulps) □ Britt Jar (Dynamic Drainage Jar) - retention/drainage studies □ Waring Blender refining curves with tensile, tear, and burst □ Construction of variable basis weight/density handsheets □ Handsheet densification studies (hydraulic press) □ Press-drying studies (simultaneous pressing and drying) Paper Testing □ Caliper/Bulk/Density □ Tensile, TEA, Elongation □ Stiffness ~ Youngs modulus ~ Flexural strength ~ Flexural modulus ~ Taber □ Tear (Elmendorf □ Burst (Mullen) □ Gurley Porosity □ Thermogravimetric (TGA) analysis □ Wet-End strength additive analysis □ Increase of cellulosic chemical reactivity □ Synergistic benefits of wet/dry strength additives |
